looking for a school use laptop. not to expensive, yet durable and reliable. Which brand is better? any other brands out there?

particularly Toshiba Portege 3505

I am not particularly familiar with Linux, but I would like to and I want it on my laptop. But I don’t want the tablet portion of it to be unusuable.

I’m gonna buy a new notebook PC for myself pretty soon. I asked some of my friends what brand of notebook shall I choose. Almost 90% of them(they all have notebooks themselves) said that Dell probably is the best. I did a research on all the PC brands through all the ads this weekend and I also found some good deals about hp and Toshiba.

I’m really confused right now. I’m just buying a PC for regular usage, and it seems all the people around me said that Dell is the best. What do you think? What are some of the reasons for choosing Dell?

So i got home from school (where i use my laptop during every class) and opened up my laptop (its a Toshiba Tablet pc Portege) to find a tiny spec of somthing that looks like its inside my screen. its hard to explain but from my veiw it looks like its inside the glass but not part of the screen itself. ….like a peice of lent or dust somehow got under my screen ….do u know what this is or how i can get it to goo away!! its fully visable!
