Assuming that you will consider a non-cellular-phone model, I really am enjoying my Dell Axim 51v. It is 624 mhtz–blazing fast for a handheld. It is also solidly constructed and accepts two types of memory cards simultaneously. It’s Bluetooth-capable and has a built-in wireless card. Nice unit.
Really depends on what you want to use it for and what you’ll really end up using it for.
I had several Palms and an Apple Newton but never regularly carried them around so they were pretty useless.
I always have my Treo with me because it is a phone and PDA in one. I really like having the web access (monthly charges are too expensive). Great for checking weather reports when driving to the ski slopes. Great for checking movie times for a date (with my wife) while in a meeting. I send maps and directions from Yahoo Maps to it.
With PocketTunes (a separate app), I carry music with me on it that I “rent” from Yahoo Music Unlmited.
I listen to audio books on it from Audible.
I take quick snapshots of whiteboards from meetings rather than taking notes. (Not great at it. Could be better).
treo 750 is the best ive heard of

I think that the Dell Axim X51v is the best PDA right now. It runs Windows Mobile 5 and has a VGA display.
If you want to get a PDA phone, consider the Treo 650 or Treo 700W.

HP and Toshiba have the best PDA’s but they go up to $600.

I don’t know about ‘best’, but I love my Palm T|X. 128mb flash memory, built it wifi & bluetooth, handles just about anything i want it to do.
